My 26 yr. old son was hit by a car Labor Day weekend,?

His left foot is injured. He has been on krutches since, cannot walk, work,sleep, or do much of anything. He has contacted an attorney, and the attorney has sent him to doctors. He is not able to work, so has lost wages. The thing is, he has absolutely no income coming in now. What can he do? He was not injured on the job, so he cannot collect workmen's compensation. He has not put enough into the system to collect disability from social security. What can he collect? Or does he have to wait until his settlement, which could be years? If he had an apartment, he would have lost it by now. He has no money, and is in so much pain and discomfort, I doubt he'll be able to work for a long time. Please help.
