Do you really care about people?

Some people it seems champion themselves as such compionate giving types and complain about how they need more 'me' time, which seems self-indulgent. It just seems sometimes like the quiet ones that seem uncaring on the outisde are often deeply empathetic, but don't need the world to pat them on the back. When you say you care, is it truly about just those closest, like family and friends, or do you care about humans / strangers, and how do you show it?
