How will I receive this station?

I live in the general tacoma washington area. I would like to be able to receive CBC Radio One. The nearest station transmitting CBC radio is in vancouver(CBU 690am). I have tried receiving CBU 690 on many radios but the signal quality was borderline unacceptable. I Have a Grundig model S350DL that isn't currently hooked up to any antenna capable of receiving station. I was wondering what I can do to receive this station. Also if receiving 690am isn't possible is it possible to pick up their shortwave repeater? Is there a antenna I should be using?
